Spitalfield - Better Than Knowing Where You Are
Better Than Knowing Where You Are marks the amount of progression this band has made over the last eight years. The band hopes this record will take them to the next level in the big picture of things. After selling over 100,000 records and having their songs played even more times on Myspace and PureVolume they should be ready for it.
Intro song ‘Dare To…’ may be a little misleading. Spitafield doesn’t deliver an album that differs much from their previous efforts, music-wise. The band sticks to what they have been doing very good over the last years; writing catchy poppy emo songs that will appeal to fans of bands such as Thursday, Taking Back Sunday and Bayside.
Songs ‘Hold On’ and ‘Won’t Back Down’ are stuck between more uptempo heavier rocksongs, and are a good bridge to the rocking ‘Curtain Call’, and are a good example to the record. Everything fits together well, but it’s all a bit safe.
It wouldn´t be surprising if ´Secrets In Mirrors´, the first single of the album, would bring them the success of bands like Jimmy Eat World who took their soft poppy rock to a huge level and had their breakthrough some years ago.
Overall, a very solid record that will definitely earn them respect of all the hard work and experience over the last few years. Albeit by mostly young MySpace people that dig all the fashionable emo-stars of today.
